Around La Motte
"Bit
by bit throughout walks and strolls one discovers the charms
of La Motte and the soul of a Provençal village: the
silence, the flowered passages and arcades, and the shaded
squares with their fountains gushing clear water. "

Golf
This villa is ideal for
golfers as there are some excellent courses locally:
Saint Endréol is only five minutes’ drive from the villa.
A gorgeous 18-hole course set in beautiful surroundings.
Four Seasons at Tourettes. This is 25 minutes drive
to an unbelievable 2 x 18 hole golf courses.
The best in the area.
Valescure Golf at St Raphael. This course is 30 minutes
from the villa. It was established in 1895 and there
are 2 x 18 hole golf courses. It has previous championship
history as well.
A lesser course at Roquebrune is only 15 minutes away.

Tennis
There are three hard courts within walking distance (can be
seen from the villa). Use of these is included in the villa
rental, but arrangements have to be made with us as there
is key security.
Seaside Resorts
St. Tropez is approximately 35 minutes' drive and Ste Maxime
20 minutes. Their reputation is well known and a visit
is imperative. Cannes is only 35 minutes away and is
in business all year.
Lunching in the sun in winter reminds you of the stark difference
in climate from the UK. There are of course many smaller
resorts to be explored.
St Tropez
Most visitors to the Cote d'Azur wish to visit St Tropez,
and why not. Because of the popularity of the resort, traffic
on the approaches to the town can be horrendous.
My tip to you is to park your car in Ste Maxime, catch the
water taxi (every 15 minutes) and in twenty minutes it will
drop you right on the main quay in St Tropez, ready to enjoy
the posing capital of the south coast. There are plenty of
bars and restaurants, but another tip would be to eat in St
Maxime, more choice and much better value. If you want fab
food try Restaurant Gruppe on the sea front.
Provence Wine –
A well kept secret
The local countryside in all directions has many vineyards,
some of which produce lovely reds and rosés. Wines from Château
Rouét, to the east of the village, will be offered in many
local restaurants and are very good. The number one red recommended
by a recent Daily Telegraph article on Provence is produced
at Château Sainte Roseline, Les Arcs. This vineyard is only
ten minutes drive to the west of La Motte and contains a Chagall
mosaic and an interesting chapel with 14th century relics.
Many vineyards are open daily and a wine tasting tour is a
must for wine buffs.
My own preference for local red wine is Chateau du Rouet, a
must if you are doing a wine tour.
