La Motte Village
The village of La Motte in Provence is in the
Côte D'Azur region, only twenty minutes from Frejus
and Ste Maxime, thirty five minutes from Cannes or St
Tropez. Close by are vineyards with a reputation of
producing some of the finest wines in Provence.
Living in La Motte has the advantage of Provencal
village life, but is also only a short distance from
the coastal resorts and beaches. The village is only
ten minutes from the motorway intersection at Le Muy
and from a TGV railway stop at Les Arcs.
The local village has two hairdressers, two boulangerie
the usual local grocery shops, butcher and cafés. There
is a very nice restaurant just five minutes’ walk from
the villa going away from the village (see restaurants)
and many well known restaurants within easy driving
distance. Supermarkets at Le Muy are only five minutes’
drive away.
The village has a previously used fortification and
was surrounded at one time by a moat, hence its name,
La Motte. It was the first village to be liberated by
the allies in 1944, they made their entry by glider
and landed in the local vineyards. There is a celebration
of this every year in August.
The village has a spectacular waterfall (cascade)
which is approx 2km from the village centre. It is on
the river Nartuby and is well worth a visit. Ask one
of the villagers for directions. Further waterfalls
can been seen in the center of the Village of Trans
en Provence approx 5Kms from La Motte
