La Motte Village
The village of La Motte in Provence is in the Côte D'Azur region, only twenty minutes from Frejus and Ste Maxime, thirty five minutes from Cannes or St Tropez. Close by are vineyards with a reputation of producing some of the finest wines in Provence.

Living in La Motte has the advantage of Provencal village life, but is also only a short distance from the coastal resorts and beaches. The village is only ten minutes from the motorway intersection at Le Muy and from a TGV railway stop at Les Arcs.

The local village has two hairdressers, two boulangerie the usual local grocery shops, butcher and cafés. There is a very nice restaurant just five minutes’ walk from the villa going away from the village (see restaurants) and many well known restaurants within easy driving distance. Supermarkets at Le Muy are only five minutes’ drive away.

The village has a previously used fortification and was surrounded at one time by a moat, hence its name, La Motte. It was the first village to be liberated by the allies in 1944, they made their entry by glider and landed in the local vineyards. There is a celebration of this every year in August.

The village has a spectacular waterfall (cascade) which is approx 2km from the village centre. It is on the river Nartuby and is well worth a visit. Ask one of the villagers for directions. Further waterfalls can been seen in the center of the Village of Trans en Provence approx 5Kms from La Motte

La Motte has a complimentary mention in a recent travel book "The European Job", author Jonathan Booth, ISBN no 1 903070 252. It is a very humorous book and a jolly good read. The author stayed in La Motte during his european wanderings.

Restaurants
The following local restaurants are recommended:

Pignatelles - five minutes walk, very classy, excellent food and wine, 35 euros including wine.
Les Deux Pins - five minutes drive, very good food, 22 euros including wine can be had.
Mourettes - five minutes drive, rustic outdoor, extremely popular, own wines, 25 euros including wine. You will have a fun evening here.
Los Zodiaco - in the village, ideal for groups including children, good value but basic.
Le Vieux Piano in Le Muy - Rustic but good value.
There is also a vietnamese restaurant in Le Muy
Le Grotte - Trans en Provence - spectacular setting inside caves. Food not my best choice - but some evenings have live music and dancing.
St Endreol Golf Club - five minute drive - typical golf club restaurant but good food and value for money. If the men are missing their 'pint', the club has a very pleasant lounge and terrace and provides two draught beers in pint pots.
